PAD 1 - Reminiscing

For today’s prompt, write a reminiscing poem. In my mind, this means a poem that remembers something (a moment, a relationship, etc.). The poem could be kind of nostalgic or sharing lessons learned. But for those new to these challenges, you should know that I consider these prompts open to interpretation–so if you have another take, go for it.

You say 'reminisce'
and - at the last light of a day that was, the last bit of its warmth -
I am there
deep in the pile of elm leaves, knowing in that moment
I would later reminisce
of exactly this.

I can feel the cool ground
leaf stems poking me and slipping into the neck of my shirt
broken bits of leaves sticking to my tights
full leaves, soft or brittle,  brushing across my face: such busy hands,
the smell of fall, - of then,
and I am laughing and someone lands on me

having jumped as high as possible to disappear into the pile
where now all three of us are laughing
snorting in the dust of crumbled summer
we - invisible, really, to all and to the rest of time.
